Burnham 3 – Milton Keynes Irish FC 1 – 29th November 2023 – Dean Butler
Burnham FC’s good run continues with a win at home in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup against Milton Keynes Irish FC.
A much changed Burnham team welcomed Milton Keynes Irish FC to The 1878 stadium in the 1st round of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup on what was a bitterly cold night. It didn’t take long for the action to warm up as Burnham got off the mark in under 5 minutes. Some good work down the left hand side released Ryan Murad whose run cut into the 18 yard box and slotted home past the keeper.
A great start by the hosts who, now on the front foot, pressed to add to the lead against a resilient Milton Keynes side. However, there was no way through for either side for the remainder of the half with both keepers being called in to action and the woodwork being rattled twice and the half ends with a slender lead to the Blues.

The second half, like the first, got of to a quick start and Burnham again scored within 5 minutes of the restart. And it was Ryan Murad yet again who doubled his tally following another direct run into the box side footing the ball neatly into the right hand bottom corner of the net .
Then MK Irish appeared to get more of a foothold in the match and had some good periods of pressure but the Burnham defense held out with the help of a couple of great saves from keeper Archie Cunningham, the Blues continued to look dangerous going forward and it was Burnham who extended their lead. A cross swung into the far post was met by Ryan Murad once again who headed home and completed his deserved hatrick. The visitors in their orange and white kit made some important substitutions, kept up the pressure and finally got their reward with just over 10 minutes to go to make the score 3.1.
The visitors kept pressing until the final whistle but couldn’t add to their tally. Burnham saw out the game and on balance deserved go through to the next round.
