Match Report | Harefield United v Burnham FC (League)
Harefield United 1 Burnham 2 – 15th August 2023 – Dean Butler
Back to back league wins for Burnham in a hard fought away win at Harefield United.
Burnham’s good early season league form continued with a gutsy away win at Harefield in what at times was a very feisty game. The early action was shared between both sides however it was the blues who had the best of chances with Aitor Pasantes and Jabir Laraba both going close in the first 5 minutes, keeper Carl Dennison was called in to action soon after when the home side’s free kick deflected off the wall for an easy take by the keeper.
It was, however, the home team who took the lead initially after 20 minutes when a long range effort dipped under the bar to beat Carl and into the Burnham net. Burnham upped the pressure after this and following another couple of chances the equalizer came from a re-start on the right hand side. Jonny Denton’s quick free kick was rolled to Leo Decabo and some neat passing saw Firas Chniba roll the ball out to left hand side of the 18 box where George Butler collected and from just inside the area and drilled the ball into the bottom right hand side of the goal for a fully deserved equalizer.

Burnham dominated large parts of the second half pinning the home team back and playing some good possession football, a controversial decision came when after some good work from Jabir saw his effort hit the underside of the bar, it appeared to have crossed the line but like Jack Penton’s effort from the weekend play was waved on by the official.
Despite the possession Burnham enjoyed it took until the 70th minute for the breakthrough. JP (Jack Penton) was released down the right hand side, his run took him into the 18 yard box where his inch perfect ball across the 6 box was met by a great run from Jabir Laraba, who side footed in for his 4th goal in two games.
Going behind sparked the home team into life, it needed an excellent save from Carl to deny what looked like a golden chance to equalize, the Hares sprung the Burnham defence and with a one on one on rushing Dennison kept his side in front with a great stop.
The final ten minutes the game became very scrappy as Burnham held onto their lead. The referee had to try and keep things in order and issued further yellow card to players and coaches alike. After playing nearly 9 minutes of additional time the final whistle finally came and secured a first away win and back to back victories Burnham.
