Seven to Go: Burnham Lead the Charge in a Thrilling Title Race

Sunday 1st March 2026

As we enter the final stretch of the season, Burnham Football Club sit proudly at the top of the table – but the job is far from done.

With 61 points from 31 games, Burnham have shown consistency, resilience and character throughout the campaign. The hard work of the players, management team and everyone behind the scenes has put the club in a fantastic position. However, this title race is one of the tightest in recent memory and every single point will matter between now and the final whistle of the season.

Hot on Burnham’s heels are Broadfields United, currently second with 58 points from 28 games, holding three games in hand. Just behind them sit Ashford Town (Middlesex) in third on 54 points from 28 games. Fourth place is occupied by Wallingford & Crowmarsh FC with 53 points from 31 matches, while Windsor & Eton FC are fifth with 51 points from just 25 games – another side with significant games in hand.

In short, nothing is settled.

Burnham have seven league games remaining, including three crucial home fixtures that could define the season. Next Saturday we welcome Harefield United to The 1878 Stadium. That’s followed by North Greenford United on 14th March, before an Easter Weekend clash against Holyport FC on 4th April.

These are massive games – not just in terms of league position, but in momentum, belief and pressure. At this stage of the season, margins are fine. One goal, one decision, one moment of quality can shape the table. Home advantage can make a real difference, and the atmosphere created by our supporters lifts the players when it matters most.

The format is simple but unforgiving. The team finishing top will be crowned Champions and promoted automatically. Teams finishing second to fifth will enter the play-offs, with second hosting fifth and third hosting fourth in the semi-finals. The winners will then contest the final to decide the second promotion spot.

Burnham have put themselves in the driving seat, but this league is relentless. Every contender has something to play for, and several have games in hand that could dramatically shift the picture. The challenge now is to stay focused, stay united and approach every game with the same intensity that has taken us to the summit.

This is where our supporters, you play your part.

Your support – whether at home or on the road – genuinely makes a difference. The noise, the encouragement, the visible backing from the stands all feed into the energy on the pitch. In tight contests, that extra push can be decisive.

We have worked all season to earn this position. Now it’s about finishing the job.

Seven games. Three huge home fixtures. A title race that could go right down to the wire.

Let’s get behind the lads and make these final weeks count.
